"Invalidated signatures" on Maloney's nomination forms disqualified him from the ballot.
Patrick Maloney, one of six candidates for the Ward 1 city council seat, announced his disqualification from the race in an email to his supporters Thursday evening, December 14, 2023.
Maloney, who announced his candidacy in September with a promise to leverage his relationships and experience working downtown to improve Riversiders' quality of life, expressed his disappointment about the circumstances. "Regrettably, I have an important update to share. Despite our collective efforts, a number of the signatures we gathered for my candidacy were invalidated, leaving us short of the required number to qualify for the ballot. This means that I will not be able to run in the upcoming election. While this news is disappointing, our journey and the conversations we sparked about the future of Riverside have been invaluable," Maloney said.
Maloney's departure from the Ward 1 race impacts a crowded race with five individuals still on the list of potential candidates the City Clerk's office is validating this week.
"I encourage you to stay engaged and informed as we approach the March election. The power of your vote is crucial, and I urge you to consider the other candidates thoughtfully and cast your vote for the future of our city. Remember, each vote is a voice in shaping Riverside. Let's continue to work towards a brighter future for our community," Maloney encouraged his supporters.
