A new exhibition at the Riverside Arts Museum (RAM) will open Saturday to feature the work of sculpting artist, William Catling.
Titled “The Weight of Memory | William Catling: A Retrospective,” the exhibit will include Catling’s clay designs. It will remain on display at the museum from Jan. 15 to May 15, 2022.
The exhibition, which is sponsored by Betty & Walter Parks, will additionally be celebrated at an opening reception Saturday, Feb. 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The RAM event is open to the public and will also credit “The 52 Project 2021 Exhibitions” and “Are You with Me? Sonya Fe.”
Catling, who is a professor and chair of the Department of Art at Azusa Pacific University, uses his work to fuel a deeper understanding of the connection between faith and the meaning of one’s life.
“Clay is alive,” Catling said on his website. “The role of the artist is to work in tune with the life of the materials chosen. The crack in the clay is a gift to be received. Humanity is bound by a common spirit to be rejoiced with, mourned for and shared in.”
The RAM celebrates the study and appreciation of the arts and was designated a historical landmark by the City of Riverside in 1982.
