Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful is venturing outside city limits for the first time in its nearly 40-year history, organizing volunteer cleanup events in Highgrove and University on June 13 and 20.

The cleanups run from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. both Saturdays. Volunteers will focus on litter pickup, graffiti removal and brush maintenance on key streets in each community.

The expansion follows an agreement KRCB reached with Riverside County in March. The county's First District, overseen by Supervisor Jose Medina, is partnering on the effort.

"I've seen over the years how successful [KRCB's] program is and in University, when I announced that we were expanding, they were very excited about it, as is Highgrove," Medina said in a statement.

KRCB, Riverside's local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, typically works within city limits tackling illegal dump sites, graffitied walls and neglected greenery. Highgrove and University are unincorporated communities in Riverside County, outside the city's jurisdiction.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Registration is required in advance; meeting location details are provided during signup.
