After 5 Years of Preparation, Parkview Legacy Foundation Launches Grants Program for Local Nonprofits
Foundation created from hospital sale unveils three-tiered funding approach targeting housing, health, economic mobility.
Shop owner’s selective approach to inventory means this weekend’s sale features a curated selection instead of the usual castoffs.
Penrose Record Room at 3485 University Avenue will sell more than 10,000 select vinyl records for $5 each or 100 for $200 during a weekend clearance sale Aug. 16-17 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Customers enter through stairs under the Life Arts Building on Lemon Street.
The sale offers an unusual opportunity for collectors accustomed to digging through bins of damaged or unwanted albums. Shop owner Matt Beld maintains strict standards for incoming inventory, regularly turning away collections that do not meet his quality threshold.
"I can't do anything with these, thanks for coming by, sorry man," Beld told one hopeful seller who brought in an armload of records, placing them on the glass case by the register before being declined. Such scenes play out regularly as Beld filters what enters his shop.
This curation approach means even clearance-priced records maintain higher standards than typical bargain bins. Collectors will not find endless copies of Captain and Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" padding the selection.
The timing coincides with vinyl's continued resurgence among music fans seeking physical media. Record sales have grown consistently over the past decade as younger listeners discover the format alongside longtime collectors expanding their libraries.
Regular Penrose music and merchandise remain available during the sale but are not included in clearance pricing. The shop's normal inventory continues at standard rates while the selected clearance stock moves at reduced prices.
Beld's willingness to reject poor-quality collections at the front desk distinguishes his operation from stores that accept anything to fill space. This selectiveness creates better browsing experiences for customers, even during large-scale clearance events. The sale continues while supplies last.
