Albion SC Riverside's Under-17 boys team swept the Elite Academy National tournament in Missouri, going 4-0 and claiming the championship title. The team's success highlights the strength of Riverside's youth soccer program on the national stage.
Driving the news: The team scored 10 goals while conceding only three, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive strength throughout the tournament.
Four players were named to the tournament's "Best 11" all-star team: Lucas Hernandez, Hugo Gomez, Richard Milam, and goalkeeper Johan Aldana.
Why it matters: This victory marks the team's second consecutive EA National tournament win, solidifying their position as a top-performing youth soccer club in the United States.
The team competed against clubs from major metro areas with larger player pools, demonstrating Riverside's ability to develop high-caliber talent.
What's next: The team will compete in the new MLS II format for their final year of club soccer before aging out of youth competition.
This transition provides a pathway for players seeking college soccer opportunities or professional careers.
The bottom line: Coach Bryan Magana, who has led the team for over five years, attributes their success to the players' passion and commitment.
"This group is special—they have shown pure passion and commitment," Magana said.
