The City of Riverside is accepting applications through Friday, Nov. 13, for vacancies on 16 of its boards and commissions, the volunteer panels that advise the City Council on local issues.

Members weigh in on topics including planning and development, parks and recreation, public utilities, ethics, cultural heritage, public safety, accessibility and the city's budget. Their recommendations help inform decisions the council makes on issues that affect residents across Riverside.

"Our Boards and Commissions give residents a meaningful opportunity to have a voice in their local government," City Clerk Donesia Gause said in a statement. "These community volunteers bring valuable perspectives to the table and serve as an important connection between our residents and City Hall."

The Charter Review Committee has the most openings, with a citywide seat and seats representing all seven wards.

Seven other panels have both citywide and ward openings: the Commission on Aging, for Wards 2, 4 and 6; the Airport Commission, for Wards 2 and 6; the Community Police Review Commission, for Wards 1 and 2; the Cultural Heritage Board, for Wards 2, 4 and 6; the Deaf Commission, for Wards 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7; the Human Relations Commission, for Wards 5, 6 and 7; and the Board of Library Trustees, for Wards 1 and 3.

Eight panels have ward openings only: the Budget Engagement Commission, for Wards 5 and 6; the Commission on Disabilities, for Ward 6; the Board of Ethics, for Wards 2, 4, 6 and 7; the Human Resources Board, for Wards 1, 2 and 4; the Museum of Riverside Board, for Wards 2 and 6; the Park and Recreation Commission, for Wards 2, 4 and 5; the Planning Commission, for Wards 2 and 6; and the Transportation Board, for Wards 2, 3, 6 and 7.

The positions are voluntary. Applicants must live in the City of Riverside and be registered voters. Terms last four years, and members may serve up to two consecutive terms.

While the current vacancies close Nov. 13, the city accepts applications for all of its boards and commissions year-round.
