1. Mission Inn Hotel Sale Saga

The Mission Inn prepares for its first Festival of Lights since the death of owner Duane Roberts, who launched the holiday tradition in 1992.

No story captured Riverside's attention more than the potential sale of our most iconic landmark. Our November reporting that the Mission Inn Hotel was being marketed for approximately $85 million dominated conversations across the city. The story took an unexpected turn when we published our accountability follow-up, openly addressing reporting errors and the complexities of covering sensitive real estate transactions. Together, these stories sparked crucial conversations about journalism, transparency, and what the Mission Inn means to Riverside's identity.

These stories reflect the pulse of Riverside in 2025—a city dreaming big about its future while grappling with change to its most treasured institutions. As we head into 2026, we're committed to continuing this work: bringing you the stories that matter, holding ourselves accountable, and serving as your eyes and ears at City Hall and across our community.
