Sports are an essential part of daily life for many people worldwide. Riverside, Calif., is no exception to that. This community has a very diverse sports fanbase. Here at the Raincross Gazette, we’re dedicated to bringing updates to local sports teams, whether collegiate, high school or even non-academic sports, with a bigger story behind it.
To start things off, Riverside Community Colleges’ (RCC) Men’s Football team, as of the 13th of Oct., have an outstanding overall record of 5-0 and will look to keep that winning streak going when they face off against Palomar college on the 15th of Oct. and MT. San Antonio, on the 22nd of Oct. RCC, will hope to recreate or surpass their last season’s magic in which they achieved a record of 10-3.
In the world of collegiate soccer, UCR Men’s soccer team is off to a rough season with a record of 4-6-3, not where they would want to be as a team. Their next games for the upcoming weeks are against Sacramento State on the 15th, Cal State Fullerton on the 19th, and CSU Bakersfield on the 22nd of Oct. Their only game at home during this period that the public could attend is when they play Cal State Fullerton at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
The UCR Women’s Soccer team is not having the best seasons this year, with an overall record of 2-4-7. The Women’s next set of games is against UC Santa Barbara on the 16th, the University of Hawaii on the 20th, UC Davis on the 23rd and CSUN on the 27th of Oct. The Riverside public will have a chance to attend two games as they’re playing in their home stadium against UC Santa Barbara and CSUN.
Moving on to the cross-town rivals, California Baptist Universities (CBU) soccer season is well underway. CBU Men’s Soccer’s overall record is 4-4-2. However, in the WAC tournament, they are currently 0-1-1, not starting well at all. They’ll look to pick up their stride against Houston Christian on the 15th, San Jose State on the 21st and Seattle University on the 23rd.
The women’s CBU Soccer team is on an overall record of 5-3-3. They started their WAC conference record at 2-2-1, which was not a bad start to the competition. However, they will be looking to play with more intensity when they face off against Tarleton State on the 14th, Abilene Christian on the 16th, Southern Utah on the 21st and Utah Tech on the 23rd of Oct. CBU Women’s will be playing at CBU’s Soccer Stadium for the Tarleton and Abilene games.
In other sporting news, CBU Men’s Basketball team will be hosting a Blue/White scrimmage game at the CBU Events Center on the 15th of Oct. at 2 p.m. CBU encourages the community to come out and show support as the event is free admission and entirely open for the public. This will be the first look we’ll get at the new student-athletes for the 2022 CBU Men’s Basketball Team.
