Unanimous trustee vote ushers in new era as Dr. Christon Arthur will succeed Interim President Osborn
During a meeting held on May 9, the La Sierra University Board of Trustees unanimously voted in favor of selecting Dr. Christon Arthur as the university’s new president.
Arthur, who is currently serving as provost at Andrews University in Michigan, will assume the position of president on July 1, 2024, succeeding Dr. Richard Osborn, who was appointed interim president following the resignation of Dr. Joy Fehr.
“What an exciting moment for La Sierra University. We are thrilled by the selection of Dr. Arthur to the president’s role,” said Dr. Bradford C. Newton, university board chair. “His remarkable breadth of experiences and insights into so many aspects of educational leadership are a perfect fit for La Sierra. We look forward to working with him as the university continues to chart an upward path following the short-term strategic plan that has been developed, and we anticipate a bright future for years to come under Dr. Arthur’s skillful guidance.”
Arthur began his selection process with a surprise Zoom call from Michigan, where he shared his excitement about the university.
“It is the joy and honor of my life to be able to accept the invitation to join this illustrious La Sierra University,” Arthur said. “I’m looking forward to the years ahead.”
Arthur, a graduate of Andrews University with degrees in curriculum and educational administration and a doctorate in educational leadership from Harvard University, brings extensive experience in leadership, teaching, and curriculum development to La Sierra University. As provost, he has overseen several initiatives and led efforts to enhance enrollment growth and strengthen international relationships.
“I’m honored to be selected as the next president of La Sierra University,” Arthur said. “I’m looking forward to working with you and the La Sierra community to build on a foundation of academic excellence and spiritual leadership for future generations.”
