The City Council wrapped up a second day of closed-session deliberations on inspector general candidates Tuesdaywithout any reportable action, extending discussions that began during Monday's special meeting.
During public comment, two residents phoned in with remarks on the process.
Pete Benavidez, who chaired the Charter Review Committee that recommended creating the inspector general post, praised the council's pace. "Whether you choose one this week or in weeks to come, I don't have a problem with the time you're taking to do this work because this is a chance to get it right," he said.
Rich Gardner, a Ward 4 resident, pushed for more urgency and questioned the position's roughly $500,000 annual cost. "It seems like it's taken an extremely long time to get to this point," he said, adding he hopes the eventual hire can help address the city's budget challenges.
Council entered closed session after public comment concluded and returned without action to share, adjourning the special meeting.
