City officials hosted a small open house and welcoming ceremony today for the SPC Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library at its temporary location inside the Lincoln Park Community Center, as planning continues for a permanent $20 million facility.

The library relocated from its previous Chicago Avenue site, which closed April 11 when the lease expired. The interim location at 4261 Park Ave. will offer morning library services and afternoon mobile outreach throughout Eastside neighborhoods.

“We are glad to be here, in this location. It is in the neighborhood, it’s walkable, and in a place that residents are already spending their time,” said Library Director Erin Christmas.

The permanent library at Bobby Bonds Park, approved by the City Council in 2019, remains in the planning stage. The new facility is expected to open in 2026.

The Lincoln Park site will operate Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with additional Sunday service at Hunter Hobby Park from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Residents can now select Lincoln Park as a book pickup location through the Riverside Public Library website at www.riversideca.gov/library.
