The first session lands Thursday at the La Sierra Senior Center, with three more scheduled neighborhood meetings to follow before the June 2 ballot.
The City of Riverside is holding four neighborhood informational meetings this spring to answer resident questions about Measure Z, the voter-approved sales tax renewal measure heading to the June 2 ballot.
The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. at La Sierra Senior Center, 5215 La Sierra Ave. That session is intended for residents of Wards 6 and 7.
Three additional meetings are planned for different parts of the city. Ward 1 and Ward 2 residents are invited to a session on Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at Bordwell Park/Stratton Center, 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd. Ward 4 residents can attend a meeting on Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m. at Orange Terrace Center, 20010 Orange Terrace Pkwy. A final session for Wards 3 and 5 will be held Thursday, May 21, at 6 p.m. at Janet Goeske Senior Center, 5257 Sierra St.
Measure Z is a general transactions and use tax that Riverside voters first approved in 2016 at a 1 percent rate, with a sunset date of 2036. The June ballot measure would increase the rate to 1.25 percent and extend it indefinitely. City officials have said the additional revenue would support fire department staffing and infrastructure, police services, homelessness programs, and road repairs.
The measure is a general tax, meaning proceeds go into the city's general fund and are not legally restricted to the services named in the ballot measure.
