Opinion: The Untapped Engine of Riverside’s Future-Our Airport

Long overlooked, Riverside Airport is emerging as a hub for innovation, education and community—offering a powerful runway for the city’s future growth.

If you ask most residents about our Riverside Airport, they might describe it as a quiet place for small planes or student pilots. But those of us working closely with it know something different: this airport is one of Riverside’s most underutilized assets—and it’s time we change that.

I’ve long believed that elevating the airport’s role in our city is key to unlocking a new wave of economic, educational, and community opportunities. It’s more than just a transportation hub; it’s a platform for workforce development, innovation and civic engagement.

The Wallace Theatre at California Baptist University (CBU) is gearing up for a summer of Shakespearean entertainment with its Courtyard Shakespeare Festival from June 13-22.

Driving the news: The festival features two productions: "The Comedy of Errors" and "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] [Again]," offering a mix of classic and contemporary takes on the Bard's work.

  • "The Comedy of Errors" promises "double the twins, double the trouble" in a high-energy farce about mistaken identities.

Why it matters: CBU aims to attract both seasoned Shakespeare enthusiasts and newcomers with these diverse productions.

  • "The Comedy of Errors" is positioned as family-friendly and ideal for first-time Shakespeare audiences.

The big picture: The festival showcases Shakespeare's enduring appeal and adaptability to modern audiences.

  • "The Complete Works" condenses all 37 of Shakespeare's plays into a 97-minute performance, incorporating "irreverent humor, modern twists, and audience participation."

What's next: Tickets are available through CBU's online ticketing system for the 10 total performances scheduled throughout the festival.
