Riverside residents, business owners and community members are invited to a workshop Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. to review the latest design plans for South Main Street between Third Street and Highway 60.

The workshop is part of the city's South Main Street Complete Streets Project, funded through the federal Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant program. The project aims to improve safety and accessibility along the corridor for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, building on improvements identified in the Northside Specific Plan.

Planned improvements include expanded parking capacity for business patrons, including new diagonal parking along the center of the street; wider, more accessible sidewalks and Class II bike lanes, or painted bike lanes on the road, on both sides of the street; and traffic calming measures such as high-visibility crosswalks, curb extensions, speed feedback signs, pedestrian signals and reduced speed limits.

At the workshop, residents can review the preferred design, ask questions and share feedback on the proposed improvements and trade-offs. Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available, along with refreshments.

The workshop will be held at the Salvation Army Riverside Corps, 3695 1st St.

More information: Registration and project updates are available through the city's South Main Street project website riversideca.gov, and questions can be directed to info@RiversideSouthMainStreet.com.
