Hello Riverside, and Happy Monday! Yesterday we asked about a Riverside favorite known for its bottomless tortillas and a whole lot of birthday songs. The answer: Anchos Southwest Grill & Bar! Open since November 1989 on Hole Avenue, Anchos built its reputation on Southwest and Tex-Mex classics — but it's the fresh, house-pressed tortillas served with butter that Riversiders talk about most. For 35 years and counting, it's been the go-to spot when there's something to celebrate.
And speaking of celebrating — happy Labor Day to all the Riversiders taking a well-earned day off today. Thanks to everyone who wrote in! See you tomorrow!

The Airport Commission reviews aircraft operations data and a proposed CAVU lease, while the Budget Engagement Commission weighs a CAL FIRE service agreement and its own advisory scope.

Airport Commission
The Airport Commission meets on Thursday, September 10, at 3 p.m. (agenda) to review the Airport Manager's September 2026 report, which shows aircraft operations roughly flat, fiscal year revenues exceeding budget projections while expenditures came in under budget and notes upcoming City Council consideration of a 5-year lease with CAVU and updated Airport rates and charges (item 5).
Budget Engagement Commission
The Budget Engagement Commission meets on Thursday, September 10, at 5 p.m. (agenda) to review a proposed $293,132.21 annual Measure Z appropriation for a wildland fire protection service agreement with CAL FIRE covering about 5,499 acres of high-risk areas in Riverside (item 4), and to discuss the scope of the Budget Engagement Commission and consider the formation of a committee to recommend potential changes to what topics the Commission can advise on (item 5).

Sister city partnerships and international investment strengthen Riverside's economy and community as the city looks toward the 2028 Olympics.

Did anyone hear that question while traveling this summer? I hope you answered, “Riverside!” with pride.
One of the privileges of serving as your Mayor is representing Riverside beyond our city limits. My priority is always our residents and I take that very seriously when I serve as your City’s representative. Some of my daily duties include hosting, greeting and engaging with visitors to our hometown. When I meet with a mayor from one of our nine Sister Cities, talk with an international business considering investing here, or welcome a visiting student, I am reminded that Riverside’s relationships around the world ultimately come down to relationships between people.
I believe those connections build on three of Riverside’s greatest strengths.
