Hello Riverside, and Happy Tuesday! It's Apple Cider Day, and with this drizzly, chilly weather we're having, the timing is perfect. Here's an easy slow cooker recipe: Combine a 64-ounce bottle of apple cider with 3 cinnamon sticks and โ…“ cup brown sugar. Wrap 1 teaspoon each of whole allspice and cloves in cheesecloth and toss it in. Cook on high until steaming, then reduce to low and keep warm.

Stay cozy and see you tomorrow!

Mission Inn Foundation Celebrates Return to Main Street with Opening Weekend

The Mission Inn Foundation returned to Downtownโ€˜s pedestrian mall after a year away, opening three storefronts at Sixth and Main streets with hundreds of visitors during its Nov. 15-16 debut.

Why it matters: The foundation's retail shop, tour departures, and rotating exhibits are now steps from the Mission Inn during Festival of Lights seasonโ€”making Riverside history more accessible to residents and visitors.

What's new: The space at 3598 Main St. houses the foundation's gift shop, serves as the starting point for all walking tours, and debuts with "On Peace and Friendship," marking the Peace Tower's 100th anniversary.

The backstory: The foundation was evicted from the Mission Inn in 2024 and spent a year at 3750 Market St. before securing this more prominent location across from the hotel's Amistad Dome.

What they're saying: "It feels like coming back home," said docent Christal Pennington. Curator Nancy Wenzel noted "hundreds of people flocking" to opening weekend.

What's next: A commemorative Mount Rubidoux walk is Dec. 13โ€”the Peace Tower's actual 100th anniversary.

The bottom line: Tours depart daily from 3598 Main St. Hours: Sundays-Mondays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesdays-Saturdays 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
