Early morning holiday shoppers may be diverted Saturday, Dec. 4 if heading west on the 91 Freeway near the Galleria at Tyler mall due to newly announced maintenance work.
From 6 a.m. to noon a part of the freeway will be closed as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Riverside maintenance crew and contractual staff work on paving functions and traffic control, according to a Caltrans commuter alert released Tuesday.
Closure of the westbound on-ramp at Van Buren Boulevard and the westbound off-ramp at Tyler Street will go into effect during the time of maintenance. Additionally, the freeway’s #3 lane going westbound from Van Buren Boulevard to Tyler Street will be closed for paving operations, the alert said.
News of the maintenance operation comes just three weeks ahead of Christmas during a time typically heavy with holiday shoppers at the mall on Tyler Street. Drivers can expect higher than usual traffic in the area all morning Saturday.
For any questions or for further details regarding the maintenance work the public can contact Eric Dionne of Caltrans District 8. The district serves both the Riverside and San Bernardino neighborhoods.
