The Joust tournament kicks off Friday morning with a challenging slate for the Lancers. Biola at 10 a.m., followed by an evening showdown against UC Irvine. The Anteaters have consistently fielded competitive water polo programs, making the 5:30 p.m. match a potential highlight of the weekend.
This one has been on my calendar since the schedules were released. In my opinion, this is the most exciting sports event in Riverside. It is looking to get even more exciting over the next couple years with the Lancers joining the Highlanders in the Big West Conference. It's when, not if, the two schools will play each other for an NCAA tournament bid, and that will be electric.
CSDR looks to bounce back after their loss against Florida School for the Deaf and Blind last weekend. This is a senior night matchup. We believe in the Cubs making another deep playoff run, but there is something special about that last home game of the season for these seniors.
The tournament continues Saturday with back-to-back matches. UC San Diego brings Division I competition in the afternoon, while Concordia caps the weekend slate.
An early morning matchup rounds out the water polo action, with Austin College providing non-conference competition.
La Sierra (11-5) travels to face Patriot (11-1) in what shapes up as a clash between two strong flag football programs. Patriot's near-perfect record suggests they'll provide a stern test for the visiting Eagles.
