Riverside Arts Walk

Thursday, Aug. 7 | 6 to 9 p.m. | Downtown Riverside
Downtown's biggest monthly arts celebration returns with 22 galleries and museums open late, artisan vendors lining Main Street, and special activities at both the Riverside Art Museum and The Cheech. This free event transforms downtown into an open-air gallery perfect for exploring Riverside's thriving arts scene.

Special highlight this month: The Riverside Concert Band will perform at the Benjamin Franklin Stage with their jazz band combo, filling the air with music throughout the evening.

Sports

Friday Night Lights

August means back to school and back to high school sports. Boys football, girls flag football, girls volleyball and cross country all start this month. High school sports are great community events—affordable, family-friendly and exciting ways to spend an evening, especially when the weather is warm.

We will have a local football preview coming soon, but if you must put something on the calendar: The Arlington Lions visit the Ramona Rams on Aug. 30. You can check MaxPreps.com for the full schedule.

Soccer

Riverside has two Division I NCAA athletic programs. These athletes are good, and these games are a great way to spend an affordable evening out of the house. The energy at these matches is electric. If you go to one, you will want to go back.


CBU Lancers Women's Soccer vs. CSU Bakersfield

Season opener for the 2024 WAC Tournament champions as they host Cal State Bakersfield. The Lancers begin their title defense before heading out on a challenging five-game road stretch.

UCR Highlanders Men's Soccer vs. Cal State LA

The UC Riverside Highlanders men's soccer team hosts Cal State LA in regular season action. Come support the Highlanders as they take on the Golden Eagles at home.

CBU Lancers Men's Soccer vs. American University

The Lancers host American University in Western Athletic Conference action. Come support the team as they continue their final season in the WAC.

UCR Highlanders Women's Soccer vs. UTEP

The UC Riverside Highlanders women's soccer team hosts UTEP in Big West Conference action. Come support the Highlanders as they take on the Miners at home.

CBU hosts Cal Poly to wrap up the month of August soccer action—a great way to end the summer with college soccer in Riverside.

The Riverside Smudge Pots host Perris in period-authentic 1800s baseball. Experience America's pastime as it was played more than a century ago with vintage uniforms, rules and equipment.

Free Summer Sundays

Beat the summer heat while exploring world-class art with free admission to both museums every Sunday. The Riverside Art Museum features local and regional exhibitions, while The Cheech showcases Chicano and Latino art and culture.

Art Laboe's 100th Birthday Bash

Celebration of the legendary radio DJ's milestone 100th birthday. When Art Laboe passed away and it came time to hand the king of the oldies crown to someone new, Riversiders knew Angel Baby Rodriguez—Southern California radio legend and longtime KUCR DJ—was the one to do it right. See Angel Baby perform at Art Laboe's 100th birthday bash featuring The Originals, Sly, Slick and Wicked, The Original Medallions and more surprise guests.

Riverside Electric Light Parade

Friday, Aug. 29 | 5:30 p.m. | Riverside Historic Courthouse on Main Street
Hundreds of decorated bicycles light up the streets of Riverside in this unique community celebration. Both electric and traditional bikes are welcome as riders parade their illuminated creations around the city. This monthly gathering brings together cyclists of all ages for a colorful, family-friendly ride through downtown.
