This Week in City Hall: February 12, 2024

A resolution calling for a ceasefire in the conflict between Gaza and Israel and a possible permit for another new carwash on Van Buren Blvd are this week's agendas.

City Council

City Council will meet in closed and open sessions on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in an afternoon session at 3:00 p.m. and an evening session at 6:15 p.m. (agenda). Most of this week's agenda items will be discussed in a closed session; the open discussion agenda includes:

  • A recognition of February Black History Month, led by Mayor Lock Dawson.
  • A recommendation from Councilmember Cervantes for the Council to issue a resolution "calling for a bilateral ceasefire and immediate peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis impacting Gaza and Israel."

Board of Library Trustees

The Board of Library Trustees meets on Monday, February 12, at 5:00 p.m. (agenda) for an update on the new Eastside library's progress and the Social Work Internship Program, which connects homeless individuals who frequent the library to supportive services.

Board of Public Utilities

The Board of Public Utilities meets on Monday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m. (agenda) with the approval of various project work orders on the agenda.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee meets on Wednesday, February 14, at 3:00 p.m. (agenda) to review a plan to increase the City Manager’s expense signature authority from $50,000 to $100,000.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission meets on Thursday, February 15, at 9:00 a.m. (agenda) to consider permitting a new carwash on Van Buren Blvd. between the 91 FWY and Magnolia Ave and a 10-foot-tall, electrified security fence around Johnson Power System's tractor and equipment yard on La Cadena.

Commission on Disabilities

The Airport Commission meets on Thursday, February 15, at 5:30 p.m. (agenda) for an emergency preparedness presentation from the Office of Emergency Management.
