The Human Relations Commission will listen to a presentation on housing discrimination against formerly incarcerated individuals and there will not be a City Council meeting this week, regular meetings will resume August 2nd.
Line 4- Starting Over, Inc. presents a Fair Chance Housing Ordinance.
The presentation will address housing discrimination against formerly incarcerated people. The Ella Baker Center polled that 80% of formerly incarcerated people report difficulties in finding housing. Further adding to this obstacle is that in the City of Riverside it is legal to deny an individual鈥檚 private housing application based on their criminal history. To speak to this concern Starting Over, Inc. will use Berkley鈥檚 Fair Chance Housing Ordinance as an example of current ordinance during the presentation. The ordinance does not cover lifetime sex offenders.
