There are a handful of items to be mindful of in city hall this week, and we’ve put together a quick peek of them for you. Anyone can watch these meetings live at either EngageRiverside.com or WatchRiverside.com.
City Council
During the 1 p.m. discussion, the parks and recreation department, as well as the fire department, will present the city council with optional locations in the event that Riverside hosts a Fourth of July fireworks display.
The departments are also asking council members to approve an updated enforcement policy regarding the personal use of fireworks during the holiday season. Residents could be fined $1,000 if law enforcement catches them using, selling or possessing fireworks.
On the consent calendar during the 6:15 p.m. session, the city’s finance department has submitted the fiscal year 2020-2021 first and second quarter cash, investments and debt reports to be heard. According to the report, the city is currently responsible for more than $490 million of debt.
Board of Ethics
At the 6 p.m. meeting, the ethics panel will hear a complaint filed against Councilmember Gaby Placencia (Ward 5) by a Riverside resident. He alleges in his complaint that the councilwoman violated state, federal and local law, that she used city resources for non-city purposes, among other allegations.
Planning Commission
The Riverside Community & Economic Development Department will present to the commission a request to consider certain downtown lots for the construction of a dual-branded, 226-room hotel (AC Marriott and Residence Inn).
They are also requesting the consideration of the conversion of the former 18,172 square foot Central Fire Station into office space on two parcels. The meeting begins at 9 a.m.
Budget Engagement Commission
In the 5 p.m. meeting, the Budget Engagement Commission will have a third and final meeting to hear departmental presentations as they prepare the city’s budget for fiscal year 2021-2022. They will hear presentations from the mayor’s, city clerk’s, city attorney’s and city manager’s offices. They will also hear from the Finance, Human Resources, and Innovation and Technology departments as well as the Office of Homeless Solutions.
