Lancers Softball Exits the WAC With Quarterfinal Loss.
Local sports get a bit tricky during the summer. There are some sports features we will be pursuing during the break, but this will be the last regular sports update until the fall.
California Baptist University's baseball team enters the final stretch as they push to improve their WAC Tournament position. Currently fifth in the conference with a 9-9 record (26-23 overall), the Lancers are riding a three-game win streak after sweeping Tarleton State last weekend.
Junior outfielder Nick Dumesnil was named WAC Player of the Week after batting .500 with four extra-base hits and five RBIs during the streak. The Lancers' offensive attack features team batting leader Chris Ramirez (.386) and a pitching staff anchored by two-time WAC Pitcher of the Week honorees Julian Orozco and Ryan Kittredge.
With Sacramento State (12-6) leading the standings and the WAC Tournament set for May 21β24 in Arizona, the Lancers' final home series against third-place Abilene Christian on May 15β17 could dramatically alter their seeding. Fans can catch these crucial games at James W. Totman Stadium as CBU makes its final push toward postseason play.
The California Baptist University softball team's season concluded Wednesday with a 5-0 loss to Tarleton State in the WAC Tournament quarterfinals and a 9-7 consolation bracket loss to Utah Valley. Despite hosting the tournament on their home field in Riverside, the Lancers were unable to advance against the higher-seeded Teams.
The defeat marks the end of a challenging but determined campaign for CBU, who made consecutive WAC Tournament appearances. The team showed resilience throughout the season, earning their tournament berth through consistent conference play.
The softball program will now begin preparations for the 2026 season, with returning players looking to build on this year's experience. Meanwhile, the focus shifts to the baseball team as they continue their quest for WAC Tournament success.
