Hello Riverside, and Happy Friday! The Riverside Historical Society is working on its 2026 special publication focused on Riverside’s baseball history—and they’re looking for your stories and memories.

From championship teams like the 1972 Colt League World Series winners, to the long-running RBI Tournament, to Riverside players who went on to the major leagues, every piece of history helps. Even stories of hosting RBI players in your home are welcome.

If you have a memory, a name, or even a photo to share, email Committee Member Rob Reul at devoreul@aol.com by Aug. 31, 2025, and help make sure Riverside’s baseball legacy is remembered.

HOUSING

Riverside Seeks Final Community Input on Future Housing Design

City needs feedback before creating pre-approved plans to address shortage of 18,458 units.

The City of Riverside is hosting its final community workshop tomorrow to gather input on pre-approved building plans aimed at addressing the city's housing shortage. Residents can also provide feedback through an online survey.

Driving the news: Riverside must plan for 18,458 new housing units under state requirements, with 40% of households currently spending over 30% of their income on housing costs.

  • The $500,000 project, funded by a SCAG grant, focuses on "Missing Middle" housing types like duplexes and townhouses.

Why it matters: The initiative aims to reduce costs and permitting delays by creating pre-approved architectural plans within existing zoning regulations.

  • Only 6.4% of Riverside's current housing stock consists of 2-4 unit buildings, a type of housing that was common before 1940.

What's next: After Saturday's workshop, city staff will work with a Technical Advisory Committee to finalize design specifications.

  • A second round of community workshops is planned for May-June 2026 to promote the completed plans.

The bottom line: The project supports Riverside's 6th Cycle Housing Element goals and its obligation to meet state housing requirements.
