There’s a new gelateria in town, Benedetto Gelato, founded by Argentine expats who missed the gelato they used to get at home. Seth took a spin through the freezer case and is happy to report it’s a great spot for ice cream and a great reason to visit the Farm House Collective.
Just a handful of the 49 incredible Neighbors of the Week we’ve featured so far—and we know there are many more Riversiders out there with stories of kindness, service and everyday neighborliness waiting to be told. (Brenda Flowers)
Hello Riverside, and Happy Sunday! You may notice something missing from this today’s Gazette—there’s no Neighbor of the Week in today’s edition. We rely on your nominations to keep this special tradition going, and lately, it’s been a little quiet.
Every week, our Neighbor of the Week series celebrates the everyday Riversiders who make this city special—baristas, crossing guards, volunteers, coaches, coordinators, teachers and more. These are the people who show up, give back and help our neighborhoods thrive.
We know there are still neighbors out there going the extra mile. Please consider partnering with us to recognize the folks who don’t usually receive trophies, awards or public accolades, but whose small acts and quiet commitment make a big impact. That’s exactly what makes their stories worth telling.

Eat This Riverside: Outstanding Italo-Argentine Ice Cream at Benedetto Gelato

Seth visited Riverside’s new Benedetto Gelato and is happy to report it’s a great spot for ice cream and a great reason to visit the Farm House Collective. Founded by Argentine expats who missed the gelato they used to get at home, Benedetto was born from a maternity-leave deep dive, a DM to world-champion gelato maker Maximiliano Maccarrone, and a trip to Italy that became a turning point. On a recent visit, Seth sampled all twenty flavors on offer—from a vanilla-honey-lemon creation originally designed as a gift for Pope Francis to exuberantly tart fruit sorbets and rich nut-forward classics. The quality of the gelato is very high, and co-owner Andres Ferreire puts it simply: “Try it, it’ll be worth it.”
Our drink coasters are actually a great place to start our quest for this week’s creative nudge: condensation. With our hot, dry Riverside summers, it might seem a scarce resource outdoors, but those icy cold drinks we reach for to beat the heat offer a front-row seat to its magic. Condensation, the visible proof of our perspiration’s counterpoint, invites us to observe, reflect and create.
Part of the fun of this nudge is the quest itself: seeking out condensation in unusual places. Where might it be found? Perhaps on the cool pipes in the back room of your workplace, clinging to the window of a heavily air-conditioned storefront, or even creating a temporary sheen on the lid of a cooler during an outdoor gathering. This search can lead you to unexpected corners of your community or even within the familiar walls of your home or office, inviting a fresh perspective on your surroundings.
See something? Say something. Your tips and ideas are what fuel The Raincross Gazette. If you know of something newsworthy happening in our city, please share it with us.
