We apologize that this morning's newsletter is arriving to you 2.25 hours after our standard 5 a.m. delivery timing. There is an incredibly exciting reason for this we'll be sharing later this week!

Hello Riverside, and Happy Tuesday! We've had our eyes on the city council races lately, but there's more on the June 2 ballot than Ward seats. Our friends at Inland Empire Law Weekly (IELW) are hosting free public forums this week with each of the three candidates running for Riverside County judge, right here in downtown Riverside. Jennifer Loflin, a criminal defense attorney and former public defender, is up first on Wednesday (5โ€“7 p.m.), followed by prosecutor-turned-county-executive Michelle Paradise on Thursday (5:30โ€“7:30 p.m.), and immigration law specialist Andrea Garcia on Sunday (5โ€“7 p.m.). Each two-hour event includes a sit-down interview with IELW editor Aidan McGloin, audience questions, and a meet and greet, all at the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce on University Ave. Tickets are free and you can register for one or all three at eventbrite.com.

The Riverside Concert Band โ€” founded in 1876 and the oldest all-volunteer band in the country โ€” celebrates its 150th anniversary with a free, all-day festival at Fairmount Park on April 25.

Why it matters: This is a rare, milestone community event โ€” free, family-friendly, and rooted in 150 years of Riverside history. Eight ensembles perform across six hours.

Driving the news: Festival at Fairmount runs Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd.

  • Seven guest ensembles join the Concert Band, including groups from Long Beach, Pomona, Temecula, and San Bernardino.

The backstory: The band has performed at some of Riverside's most defining moments โ€” the first Mission Inn Festival of Lights, the Easter Sunrise Service on Mt. Rubidoux, and President Theodore Roosevelt's campaign tour through the city. Its members, ages 16 to 90, are unpaid volunteers.

What they're saying: "Knowing our purpose helps to keep us focused on serving our community," said band president Charles Anderson.

What's next: Arrive early and bring a lawn chair. Food trucks will be on site; no alcohol permitted. Free admission. More at riversideconcertband.org.
