"Doing My Best for Those I Love": How Riverside's Valentine's Scene Celebrates Community

From coffee shops with Saturday markets to couples yoga and early morning runs, local businesses are redefining romance with creativity and heart.

At Mikey G's, love isn't just a February theme – it's literally written into their business model. "I'm doing my best, for those I love" reads the tagline at this Arlington Avenue coffee spot, and owner Mikey G means every word.

What started as a family business has grown into one of Riverside's most community-focused gathering spaces, where every Saturday feels like an event. This Saturday's Valentine's Market captures their approach perfectly – curated vendors selling thrift finds, florals, permanent jewelry, and chocolate-covered strawberries converge from 9 a.m. to noon at 6115 Arlington Ave.

For Valentine's week, they're embracing strawberry season with their signature "chocolate covered strawberry" cold brew topped with strawberry cold foam, alongside their popular strawberry matcha. "Mikey G's exists for those we love," they explain. "And if you're here, that includes you."

Caltrans Begins $31 Million Pavement Project on 91 Freeway

The work zone stretches from Van Buren Boulevard to Madison Street and will continue through summer 2027.

Caltrans started a $31 million pavement project on SR-91 in Riverside that will cause lane closures and delays for the next 18 months.

Why it matters: If you commute on SR-91 between Van Buren and Madison, expect delays through summer 2027 — especially this week, when striping work closes multiple lanes and ramps from Monday night through Thursday morning.

What's happening: Crews are replacing outside lanes in both directions, repairing concrete slabs and overlaying ramps.

  • Work occurs during day and night hours, with occasional weekend and extended 55-hour closures.

This week's closures: 8 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 9-11):

  • Middle lane, right lane and shoulders closed eastbound and westbound from Tyler to Madison
  • Eastbound Indiana off-ramp closed
  • Eastbound and westbound Adams on-ramps closed
  • Eastbound Madison off-ramp closed
  • Westbound Van Buren on-ramp closed

What's next: Caltrans will notify residents and businesses before 55-hour mainline closures. Schedule depends on weather and equipment availability.
