Jan. 23 event includes DJ, new additions to '60 Miles East' exhibit, food and beverages.
Riverside Art Museum will host an after-hours experience focused on "60 Miles East: Riverside's Underground Punk Rock, Hardcore & Ska Scene" for its January Fourth Fridays event on Friday, Jan. 23, from 7-10 p.m.
DJ Mano Man will provide music while attendees explore the exhibition, which documents Riverside's underground music scene from the late 1980s to early 2000s. New works will be unveiled this night. Local food by Two Trees Kitchen and beers from local breweries will be available for purchase.
RAM told The Gazette the after-hours series aims to encourage people who don't typically visit Downtown or can't make it to the museum during regular 10 a.m.-5 p.m. hours to "come and hang out in a casual setting."
"By staying open late every fourth Friday, our vision is one of better accessibility and creating connections," RAM said. "You can come to the museum solo, with friends, a loved one or two or looking to meet new people. We hope people chat about their love of art, the architecture of the building or Riverside's Underground Punk Rock, Hardcore & Ska Scene, from the late 1980s to early 2000's."
Co-curators Zach Cordner and Ken Crawford will be in the gallery to discuss the latest works and the new additions they curated for this month.
Since opening last year, the exhibition has continued to grow with new additions. The show features flyers, photographs, ephemera and stories from Riverside's punk, hardcore and ska scene, documenting the bands and artists who shaped the local underground music community.
