91 Freeway-Adams Street interchange project advances with 2028 construction on the horizon, and Riverside TV delivers network-quality sports coverage to the community.
Riverside's award-winning broadcast team serves cord-cutters and cable subscribers with professional multi-camera football production.
Every Friday night, RiversideTV broadcasts local high school football with multi-camera coverage that rivals major networks, complete with sideline reporters, play-by-play commentary, and instant replay. The municipal station streams games free at RiversideTV.com and also airs on traditional cable channels, serving both cord-cutters and cable subscribers in Riverside's changing media landscape.
"As both a parent of an RUSD high school athlete and the city's marketing and communications director, I can say with pride that RiversideTV sets the bar with network-quality coverage of local football," said Kaitlin Reierson. "This isn't just about games; it's about giving our students, neighbors, and long-distance family members the chance to be part of every moment."
The station's award-winning sports team, led by veteran broadcaster Pep Fernandez, covers all nine Riverside public high schools plus Riverside City College and the California School for the Deaf-Riverside. Fernandez, who brings 18 years of television sports experience from major network affiliates, hosts the weekly "Friday Night Pep Rally" at 11 p.m. alongside co-host Geoff Gorham.
The broadcast quality stands out in an era when many streaming events suffer from poor production values. RiversideTV employs multiple cameras, professional graphics packages, and experienced commentators who provide the comprehensive coverage typically reserved for college or professional sports.
"Our award-winning station brings Riverside together, and I couldn't be more proud of the way it shines a light on our athletes and our community," Reierson said.
The station's multi-platform approach addresses the cord-cutting trend that has left many local sports fans without affordable viewing options. While major streaming services often lack regional sports coverage or charge premium prices, RiversideTV provides free access through both traditional cable (AT&T 99, Spectrum 3, Frontier 21) and online streaming.
Now in its 16th season of football coverage, RiversideTV recently upgraded its production with enhanced instant replay systems and improved graphics. The station uses a mobile production unit that travels to different schools each week, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the district.
Beyond live games, the station creates year-round sports content through weekly highlight shows and coaching perspective segments. The Friday Night Pep Rally serves as appointment television for local sports fans, building on the evening's game coverage with analysis and previews.
"As a proud Riversider and the city's marketing and communications director, I can't say enough about RiversideTV," Reierson said. "This small but mighty team brings our community to life every single day, sharing news-worthy information, covering local sports and council meetings, spotlighting businesses, and showcasing our amazing eateries across TV, social media, and beyond."
The station operates under the city's Department of Marketing and Communications as part of a strategy to serve residents through high-quality local broadcasting. While encouraging fans to attend games in person when possible, RiversideTV ensures no one misses the action due to work schedules, family commitments, or lack of cable subscriptions.
The approach positions municipal broadcasting as a solution for communities seeking professional local sports coverage in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.
