Raincross Day celebration, free nutrition program for kids...
Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino's TGIF: The Goodness in Food runs four consecutive Saturdays, designed for grades 2-5.
Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB) is bringing back TGIF: The Goodness in Food this March — a free four-week program for students in grades 2 through 5 and their parents.
The first three sessions run March 7, 14 and 21 at the FARSB Learning Center, 4035 Trail Creek Rd., from 9 to 10 a.m. The fourth session moves to Overflow Farms, 4850 Jurupa Ave., from 3 to 4 p.m.
Week one introduces the food groups with a hands-on plant-growing activity. Week two features a cooking demonstration led by Kianna Le of the Riverside Free Health Clinic, where kids will prepare a healthy snack to make at home. Week three brings a guest speaker from California Baptist University (CBU) covering how small daily food choices affect health and energy. The program wraps up at Overflow Farms, where participants will harvest fresh produce, go on a nature walk, and learn from a master farmer.
New this year, the curriculum incorporates the Leah's Pantry Food Smarts for Kids Workbook, which promotes healthy eating through age-appropriate activities. Kids will also grow their own plant, and the cooking demo will feature new recipes using seasonal ingredients.
Attendance at all four sessions is required for both children and a parent or guardian.
