Caltrans Begins $31 Million Pavement Project on 91 Freeway
The work zone stretches from Van Buren Boulevard to Madison Street and will continue through summer 2027.
Caltrans has started a major pavement rehabilitation project on State Route 91 in Riverside, with construction expected to last through summer 2027.
The $31 million project will extend pavement life by replacing outside lanes in both directions, repairing deteriorated concrete slabs and overlaying ramps between Van Buren Boulevard and Madison Street. Crews will also upgrade signs and guardrails along the corridor.
Work will occur during day and night hours, with occasional weekend and extended 55-hour closures as needed. The project is funded through Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
Drivers should expect delays this week from 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 through 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 due to lane and ramp closures for striping operations.
Affected areas include the middle lane, right lane and shoulders on eastbound and westbound SR-91 from approximately Tyler Street to Madison Street. Specific ramp closures include the eastbound Indiana Avenue off-ramp, eastbound and westbound Adams Street on-ramps, eastbound Madison Street off-ramp and westbound Van Buren Street on-ramp.
Caltrans officials are asking drivers to proceed cautiously through the work zone and follow indicated signage. The construction schedule is subject to material and equipment availability and weather conditions.
Residents and businesses will receive further information about planned 55-hour closures of mainline lanes and ramps. Detours and delays are expected.
