Bar Ni Modo in The Farm House Collective will feature a community ofrenda, or altar, where guests can bring a photo of someone who has passed and a non-perishable item that represents them. The tradition of ofrendas dates back centuries in Mexico, where families create altars decorated with photos, candles, marigolds and favorite items of the departed to welcome their spirits back and keep their memory alive.
The bar will be decorated with traditional marigolds, lights and festive touches throughout the month. Guests dining at the bar can request a serving of pan de muerto—a sweet bread traditionally shared during the holiday. Bar Ni Modo is also featuring a special "La Llorona" cocktail made with tequila, melon, orgeat, green chartreuse, and coconut, topped with a traditional marigold flower.
"Día de los Muertos is a day of remembrance, when families honor and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away with altars, flowers, food, and joyful memories," said Jessica Neblina, bartender at Bar Ni Modo. "We are honored and excited to hold this tradition in our bar, allowing the community to enjoy it as well."
"This celebration isn't about where you come from or what background you are. This is for everybody to come one, come all," said Chef Ulises Pelayo, executive chef at Bar Ni Modo. "We want to make sure that you're invited and you're really thinking about the people you love at this moment when you come in."
