### City Council

City Council will meet in closed and open sessions on Tuesday, October 8, in afternoon sessions at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. ([agenda](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=1217244&GUID=FEF81D94-BFA0-43C6-9687-16AE6A0DF48D&ref=raincrossgazette.com)). The agenda includes:

- Considering the approval of a [$6.7 million contract](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13336262&GUID=389F8595-88CE-4847-9426-88D4E01D69FA&ref=raincrossgazette.com) to repair and resurface [4.8 miles of roads across the city](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13336214&GUID=35CFF850-C87F-46DC-8AD6-EE7A3AE4A998&ref=raincrossgazette.com).
- Considering [updating the Municipal Code](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13336283&GUID=8825352C-A3DE-4857-94B5-77AAD2BB0283&ref=raincrossgazette.com) to prohibit "carrying or possessing" potential weapons and face coverings (with exceptions for religious or medical reasons) during public demonstrations, gatherings, rallies, protests, picket lines, or public assemblies.
- A public hearing on the [Arlington Business Improvement District's annual assessment](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13336282&GUID=0B295872-DEC1-41F1-B028-6CD4756FFDF2&ref=raincrossgazette.com) and considering approval of its annual report and levy for the next fiscal year.

During a closed session, the Council will "receive advice from legal counsel concerning Phaedra Norton v City of Riverside." Phaedra Norton is the current City Attorney; last week, the Council [held a special meeting](https://www.raincrossgazette.com/this-week-in-city-hall-september-30-2024/) for the "selection of Interim City Attorney," which was continued to the October 8 agenda.

### Human Resources Board

The Governmental Processes Committee meets on Monday, October 7, at 5:00 p.m. ([agenda](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=1231903&GUID=214F1ED7-8475-43D0-90AA-52D12961B659&ref=raincrossgazette.com)) to "accept public comment regarding Human Resources Personnel Policies and Procedures" and hear an update from RPU's new General Manager, David A. Garcia.

### Commission of the Deaf

The Commission of the Deaf meets on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. ([agenda](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=1230549&GUID=F06AC31D-AFD9-433A-92A6-C67C03DBFC0A&ref=raincrossgazette.com)) for a presentation from the Police Department.

### Planning Commission

The Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, October 10, 2024, has been cancelled.

### Airport Commission

The Airport Commission meets on Thursday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m. ([agenda](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=1229323&GUID=C5BE2DE1-20F7-40E0-9492-50732AEE635C&ref=raincrossgazette.com)) to hear the [October 2024 Airport Manager's Report](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13287495&GUID=A449F006-FA30-43C3-939D-21C142D1AAB9&ref=raincrossgazette.com), which documents substantial growth in operations and various improvement projects underway.

### Budget Engagement Commission

The Budget Engagement Commission meets on Thursday, October 10, at 5:00 p.m. ([agenda](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=1225644&GUID=DD089AFA-E0D2-45DA-AC22-F0D3E8EA6715&ref=raincrossgazette.com)) to [receive an update](https://riversideca.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13333807&GUID=2B64AD82-4777-42F8-B459-2DF52C9E2AE1&ref=raincrossgazette.com) on Riverside's Urban Forestry Street Tree Program, which reports improvements in tree maintenance frequency due to increased funding from Measure Z but faces challenges from rising costs and the need for sustained investment to maintain service levels.
