The City of Riverside will hold an official Dell Roberts Day on Tuesday, Aug. 25, celebrating the 90th birthday of longtime community leader Dell Roberts. The ceremony starts at 3 p.m. in the Riverside City Council Chambers at City Hall, 3900 Main St.

Roberts has spent decades working on civic and community initiatives across Riverside, and city leaders say the recognition reflects his long-standing impact on the community.

Roberts has served as president of the Bordwell Park Advisory Board and played a key role with the Adrian Dell and Carmen Roberts Foundation. He has also been involved with the annual Riverside Black History Parade, now in its 46th year.

"I am humbled and appreciative of the city's recognition of my 90th birthday and of the contributions I have made to the city," Roberts said in a statement.

Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson also praised Roberts. "Dell Roberts exemplifies the very best of our community spirit," she said in a statement. "His 90 years have been marked by service, integrity, and a genuine passion for making Riverside a better place for all."

Local, state and national elected officials are expected to attend, including U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, state Sen. Sabrina Cervantes, Assemblymember Corey Jackson and Riverside County Supervisor Jose Medina. Community leaders from education, faith-based organizations, civil rights advocacy and business sectors are also expected to take part in honoring Roberts' legacy.

The event is free and open to the public.
