She was surrounded by her family. But this article is not about how she made her departure. It is about all the wonderful accomplishments of a woman of modest means. She did not have a university degree or money to give. She gave her time, her energy, and her devotion to her family and to her community. She was a true philanthropist, and it made such a difference in Riverside. "Pat Stewart was a powerhouse, and just being around her was enough to feel her remarkable energy and unwavering determination. She was a force to be reckoned with, always standing firm for what mattered most to her and to the Riverside community. "One aspect that always stood out was Pat's fierce and steadfast support for Fairmount Park. She championed its legacy with incredible passion, ensuring its history and beauty were preserved for generations to come. The Stewart family's dedication has made Fairmount Park a beloved treasure in our city, and Pat's efforts can be felt every time you walk through its grounds," said Pamela Galera, director of the Riverside Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. In 1979, Pat and Bob were responsible for creating the Fairmount Park Citizens Committee, which accomplished many projects at the park. Back then the park was in very poor condition due to lack of city funding. They worked with friends and volunteers and had cleanup, painting, and repair days at the park. The park was designated as Cultural Heritage Landmark, Number 69, largely because of her efforts. She and Bob went to New York in 1988 and established that Fairmount Park was an Olmsted Park. She and Bob prepared a slide show for a joint Parks Commission and Cultural Heritage Board meeting to discuss the history and future of the park. Stewart's Boathouse on Fairmount Lake is named in honor of Pat and Bob, as Bob helped design and draft plans, and they worked tirelessly to find funding for the building. Pat researched and wrote a history book of the park, "Fairmount Park: Riverside's Treasure." She contributed several articles to the book, "The People's Playground: Riverside's Fairmount Park," published by the Riverside Historical Society in 2024\. This book was also dedicated to Bob and Pat Stewart. She also worked with Bob and others on Clean Community Systems, the volunteer predecessor to Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful. The Stewart family enjoyed sailing with the Riverside Sailing Club at Fairmount Park's Lake Evans when the girls were teenagers, but then the kids grew up and the club closed. In 2008, a group including Pat rallied to restart sailing on Lake Evans. The Riverside Community Sailing Program was created. Pat was a very active volunteer, working on the planning of the annual Regatta and as registrar and onshore coach during the summer. Many families remember what an impact Pat made encouraging their children to have confidence to sail by themselves. Pat had been involved in many organizations and activities, including: Riverside Art Museum, Riverside Municipal Museum, Library, Riverside Community Arts Association, Plein Air Painters, Riverside Sailing Club, Riverside Community Flower Show, Friends of the Citrus Park, Beautification Committee and Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful, Fairmount Park Citizens Committee, Friends of Fairmount Park, Riverside Historical Society, Riverside Community Sailing Program, and has served on task forces and panels for several city projects. She worked with Bob at their shop for 25 years, Chamber of Commerce, YWCA, Art Museum, RCC International Students Office, UCR and Riverside Regional Medical Center to name a few. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bob Stewart, in 2000\. Pat is survived by her daughters Debra Page (Rick), Linda Lawyer, and Wendy Myers (Ken); her grandchildren Joshua and Katy Myers; sister Evelyn Boggs and brother Bob Dohanos (Ginger), their children and grandchildren; and her sweet dog, Little Bit. She will be interred at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton on September 10th, 2026.
