(File photo) The Riverside Unified School District Board of Education voted 5-0 to purchase two Iowa Avenue buildings for up to $24.5 million, despite criticism over lack of public discussion. The controversial decision aims to address the district's long-standing need for a new office space. **Driving the news:** The board authorized the purchase of 102,000 square feet of office space, appraised at $820,000 above the purchase price, to replace currently leased facilities. - Board President Brent Lee abstained due to a business conflict with a potential partner in the deal. **What's next:** The district will proceed with the property purchase while continuing to negotiate partnership arrangements. - Any partnership agreement would require separate board approval, possibly at the Oct. 16 meeting.
