La Sierra University's Center for Near Eastern Archaeology is preparing for its 16th Annual Archaeology Discovery Weekend, focusing on the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. The event, titled *"Petra: Ancient World of Wonder,"* will take place Nov. 16-17 on the Riverside campus, bringing together U.S. and Jordanian experts for in-person and online illustrated talks.

Highlights include family-friendly activities like a Kids' Dig simulation and immersive 3D tours of Petra on a video hyperwall. Among the speakers is Jordan’s Director General of Antiquities, Fadi Bala'awi, who will discuss Jordan’s archaeological conservation priorities. Presenters also include Leigh-Ann Bedal of Penn State Erie, Kent Bramlett from La Sierra University, and Cynthia Finlayson from BYU.

The weekend is part of a series introducing La Sierra’s President Christon Arthur, who began his term in July, with his formal inauguration planned for May 2025\. University officials see this year’s event as a chance to connect the community with President Arthur’s vision for La Sierra’s future.

All events are free, including a 6 p.m. reception on Nov. 16 in the business school, celebrating CNEA as "Little Jordan."
