# Councilmember Clarissa Cervantes pleaded guilty to Driving Under the Influence

Clarissa Cervantez, Ward 2 Councilmember and a candidate in the [open-seat race for Assembly District 58](https://www.raincrossgazette.com/2024-election-candidate-tracker/), pleaded guilty to Driving Under the Influence on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

According to [court records](https://public-access.riverside.courts.ca.gov/OpenAccess/Criminal/CriminalCaseReport.asp?CourtCode=C&CaseNumber=BAM2301504&DefNbr=2552863&DefSeq=1&otnmseq=0&RivInd=IND&ref=raincrossgazette.com), Cervantes is sentenced to 57 days in a work release program, which she must report to on or before September 15, 2023\. Additionally, Cervantes must install an ignition interlock, also known as an in-car breathalyzer, by September 25, 2023, and pay a fine of $1,948.

Cervantes was [arrested by the California Highway Patrol](https://www.raincrossgazette.com/city-councilmember-and-assembly-district-candidate-arrested-for-dui-faces-court-appearance/) (CHP) on Saturday, July 1, 2023, on charges of driving under the influence. On May 9, 2023, Cervantes petitioned for the dismissal of a 2015 DUI conviction.
